Item Quality
Items in Sanctuary have different qualities or rarities (as they did in D2). The rarity of the dropped item is unknown, but Magic Find is confirmed for the game so far, and will affect drop percentages.
Common Items
Most common items can be found in any of the following 4 quality levels, containing random properties:
- Inferior: These items are intended to be sell-able (or possibly salvageable) items and are not normally worn by the player.
- Superior: Most normal items have no attributes associated with them unless they are of superior quality. They are the base item to be modified by other qualities.
- Magic:Magic items have a few affixes on them that are reflected in the name of the item. For example, on the boots pictured at right, "Ornate" applies a +150% gold sell value to vendors and "of Accuracy" gives the boots an additional dexterity modifier.
- Rare: Blizzard has stated that they want rare items to have a chance to be better than legendary items because of the random modifiers. Rare items and higher will drop unidentified.
Crafted Items
- Come from the various Artisans. Crafted items come in a variety of qualities, Magic, Rare, Legendary and Set.
Additional Quality Categories
- Legendary: Legendary items will be the rarest in the game, replacing Unique items from Diablo II. Set items are now also considered Legendary items.
- Set: Set items are similar to legendary items except they also provide additional properties if you equip items of the same set (the same as D2). Some set items can be crafted by an Artisan after finding corresponding recipes or dropped as regular loot at end-game.
- Artifact (Quest and Lore items): Artifact items will be special items acquired as part of the Diablo III quest line that the player will carry with them over the course of the game (like the Horadric Cube in Diablo II).
- Runestones: Runestones will have a purple colored name. Note: Socketed items no longer have their own quality level. Sockets can be added to items of all quality levels.
